Neat Image v3.x /Mac uses a new format of device noise profiles, which is different from the one used in v2.x. New format enables building more refined noise profiles that better reflect camera or scanner noise properties. More accurate noise profiles lead to more accurate noise reduction. Working with previous versions of Neat Image you built your own profiles
and downloaded ready-made profiles from the online library. What to do
with older profiles now? - There are several options: - You can simply build new profiles in Neat Image v3.x and discard old ones
- You can convert older profiles to the new format using the built-in Profile Converter (only those profiles can be converted that contain embedded noise samples)
- You can also directly use old profiles that contain noise samples and Neat Image v3.x will convert them on-the-fly, however this will take a bit of time every time you open a profile. Therefore we recommend to convert all old profiles using the Profile Converter.
- If you downloaded profiles from the online library then you will not be able to convert them yourself. On the other hand, we have already done that for you so all you have to do is to re-download the corresponding profile set(s) from the library.
Building new profiles in Neat Image v3.x is recommended because in most cases you can build more accurate profiles using this new version of Neat Image than what you can get by converting old profiles. However, if you choose to convert old profiles then the accuracy of resulting profiles and resulting filtration will be at least as high as in v2.x or better. |
